About us

The Ecclesia Sophiana is a small group of people forming an independent esoteric Church, pursuing a devotional practice which seeks to rediscover the wealth of Esoteric Christian spirituality. In particular, as the main focus of our work, we seek to restore the understanding and expression of the feminine aspect of God, and to further the Sophianic tradition. It is with these aims in mind that the E∴S∴ was organised in October 2017 as an independent jurisdiction under the leadership of Mar Dion (Dr Vernon Marshall-Coulaudon, now of blessed memory). It is now led by Mart Bibek, and the Mission in Poland is led by Mar Gabriel.

As a community possessing historic Apostolic Succession, our spiritual lives involve traditional Christian sacraments; and as a specifically Esoteric Christian group, we also add esoteric Christian practices drawn from a wide range of theological perspectives. This mixture may or may not be a form of Christianity you've experienced before, but we believe that these are all authentic ways of connecting with Divinity - pearls of great price and treasures buried in the field, ready to be rediscovered again by us today. And we want to make them available to people who are looking for such "new/old" approaches to spiritual life.

Please note that we're a fully inclusive community, and that we espouse progressive positions towards social justice and related ethical issues. We also include a wide range of theological views. We want to be a safe space where - free from bigotry and oppression - we can experience the true light, life, and love of God; where we can live in the presence of God as our authentic selves.

We have spent the past few years rather quietly - praying and reflecting, slowly developing our liturgical resources and handbooks, building up our ways of doing things. And now we are at a point where we feel we can be much more proactive about reaching out and inviting people to journey together. We are very happy to announce - as our most recent development - that that an E∴S∴ mission is under development in Poland, with hopefully more developments in the broader Central and Eastern Europe very much in mind.
